SAN FRANCISCO—The San Francisco Medical Examiner’s Office has identified 53-year-old James Collins as the man killed by gunfire from an AK-47 rifle on Sunday, June 7.

Police believe that two men were involved in the shooting. San Francisco Police Department Spokesperson Officer Albie Esparza said that Collins was likely in San Francisco’s Bayview District at the corner of Third Street and La Salle Avenue when he was shot at 10:40 p.m.

With multiple gunshot wounds, he was transported by officers and paramedics to San Francisco General Hospital, where he later died. After the shooting, a white sport utility vehicle was seen leaving the area.

Police have yet to identify or arrest any suspects in the case, and a motive for the crime is also under investigation. After finding shells from an AK-47 rifle at the scene, they concluded that that was the weapon Collins was murdered with. Police have not said whether they’ve located the rifle.

Esparza said that police are seeking two suspects: one man who was wearing a dark grey or black sweatshirt, and another wearing a white beanie and a white sweatshirt.
