SAN FRANCISCO—A 26-year-old man was shot in the hand in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park over the weekend. Officials from the San Francisco Police Department were unaware of the shooting until the victim walked into a hospital on Wednesday, April 12 seeking treatment for injuries he sustained.

The victim indicated he heard shots in the park around 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 9, and ran before noticing he was hit indicated SFPD Officer Robert Rueca told the San Francisco Gate.

The victim declined to offer further details to police, including where his exact location was in Golden Gate Park at the time of the shooting.

“According to him he got the injury on the ninth and … had been walking around a good two to three days,” Officer Rueca told the SF Gate. “He just heard gunshots, ran away — he wasn’t with anyone — then realized he had an injury.”

The victim sought treatment at a San Francisco hospital where medical staff alerted police, who were able to speak with the victim. He indicated he did not see any suspects. Authorities have not made any arrests in the case.
