SAN FRANCISCO—The San Francisco Police Department have arrested a suspect in connection to a fatal shooting that transpired in the Bayview District in January 2017. A press release from the SFPD revealed they responded to the 1400 block of Mendell Street at 11:24 a.m. regarding a shooting, where they found Mitchell Smith, 35, laying on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound.

Paramedics from the San Francisco Fire Department arrived on the scene and provided aid, but Smith died from injuries he sustained at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFGH). Homicide Investigators from the SFPD initiated an investigation where they identified Michael Peace, 37, of Alameda on Thursday, September 14. At approximately 11:20 p.m., officers from the SFPD Special Investigation Division spotted Peace on the 300 block of Bayshore Boulevard.

The San Francisco Police Homicide Detail was alerted of the arrest. After completing their interview with Peace, authorities charged him with murder and he was booked into San Francisco County Jail.
