HOLLYWOOD—In Hollywood, it’s all about image. We live in a society that is driven by image. For some reason our opinions of people are based on their talents, intelligence, personality and looks, though usually not in the order. Incredibly so, the reality is that within seconds of meeting someone for the first time, we form our opinions based on what we see. We have to look a certain way, wear a certain size and we continually look at the fashion magazines to compare ourselves with the rest of the thin, fashion world. The all American dream of self-made status, self-creation. The dreams of the past which paradoxically both fade and strengthen with time sometimes is seen in movies.

Cheers to Leo! Leonardo DiCaprio has it all, the looks, image, money, talent and a bona fide box office superstar.  Call him a late bloomer, but when Titanic blew the roof off over 15 years ago, it anointed him as the biggest movie star inHollywood. Let’s cut to the chase, “The Great Gatsby,” opened to a spectacular $51.1 million, according to estimates. DiCaprio plays Jay Gatsby, the poor farm boy who falls in love with, but loses the girl, and then makes an illegal-and outrageous fortune in the hopes of winning her back. Carey Mulligan plays Daisy Buchanan, the beautiful rich girl Gatsby desires. The 3-D movie is full of romantic music and literal fireworks that capture the essence of great work. Most importantly, he works well with women. The two performances by DiCaprio and Mulligan don’t disappoint. Women simply adore Leo; he’s an excellent actor and a fine piece of china.
