SAN FRANCISCO—Police officer Robby Chon is recovering after being struck with a skateboard while responding to a disturbance call on Thursday, November 24, according to police.

Chon, a 12-year police veteran was responding to a disturbance call when the alleged suspect, Luis Alberto Ramos-Coreas, 28, refused to follow the officer’s commands and fled the scene on a skateboard, police said.

Chon pursued the suspect who then “stopped, turned and struck the officer on the head with the skateboard, knocking the officer unconscious,” authorities stated.

The South San Francisco Police Department said that Officer Chon had sustained a major head injury and had been admitted to a local trauma center, where he was eventually moved to the Intensive Care Unit.

South San Francisco Mayor Mark Addiego addressed the incident in a press release:

“South San Francisco is a tight-knit community, with a police force that is our family. Our thoughts and prayers are with this officer and his family.”

The police department stated that Chon remains in critical condition, and is slowly recuperating. Doctors are “cautiously optimistic” about his healing, the department stated.

A GoFundMe page has been created for officer Chon. The page states that all donations received “will be used to help off-set any medical costs or unexpected bills that will pop up during this difficult time.”
