HOLLYWOOD—It could be just a coincidence, that Selena Gomez is taking time off to deal with panic attacks, anxiety, and depression. It was just two weeks ago that Selena took to Instagram ranting back and forth to Justin Bieber. In a statement, the singer revealed her mental health problems are a side effect of her lupus diagnosis. She revealed last year that she was being treated for the disease which affects the body’s immune system.

The 24-year-old says she now needs time to face her health issues “head on.” According to what she told People magazine, “As many of you know, around a year ago I revealed that I have Lupus, an illness that can present their own challenges. I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off.” She thanked all her fans for their support: “You know how special you are to me, but… I am doing everything possible to be my best. “I know I am not alone by sharing this. I hope others will be encouraged to address their own issues.”

It is not clear how much time Selena Gomez will be taking off. She is in the middle of her Revival world tour, with several upcoming dates. She is due to go to the UK in October. There has been no official notification that the remaining dates have been cancelled, although it is widely expected they will be. She was forced to cancel the end of a previous tour in 2013, prior to her lupus diagnosis.

She went to a treatment facility in 2014 and had chemotherapy, according to published reports. According to reports, lupus is a complex an poorly understood condition that affects many different parts of the body. Its symptoms range from mild to life-threatening and include extreme tiredness, rashes (especially on the face, wrists and hands) and joint pain and swelling.

While Selena Gomez is taking a break from the music industry, an old Sam Smith album from 2008 is being released by an independent music label. The tracks were recorded before Smith was famous. You may have thought that 2014’s “In The Lonely Hour,” was his debut album, but it turns out he made his first album in 2008. Back then he laid down some tracks in Flipbook Music’s recording studio in London. The label has now decided to release them under the title Sam Smith Diva Boy. One track from the album has already been released, earlier this month, called Momentarily Mine. Snippets from other tracks are up on Flipbook Music’s site and include songs titled Bad Day All Weeks, Little Tin Buddhas and Out of Our Heads. There is also a documentary promised, Sam Smith The Lost Years, which is described as “an authentic cultural footprint of Sam 2007-2010.”

They claim viewers will be able to watch him emerge from a “teenage wannabe” to a “ready-to-be” pop star and informed person. “Probably the most unique footage ever seen of a global pop star in training, leading to the fulfillment of all his dreams and ambitions.” It’s not clear what Sam Smith thinks about the release of the album, but the people who uploaded Momentarily Mine to Youtube believe he will approve.

No comment at the moment from representatives of the singer, according to Newsbeat magazine. On the label’s website it says: “Sam was in development and trained for success over three years with Flipbook Music. “It was at Flipbook Music that Sam’s dreams were nurtured, his then undiscovered talents uncovered and developed and it was there he learned his art.”

Singer Chris Brown has been arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after a woman, beauty queen Baylee Curran told police he had threatened her with a gun. According to reports, Curran told authorities Brown had pointed a gun at her face after she had been admiring his friend’s jewelry. Brown came out of his home after a stand-off with police on August 30. Mr. Brown’s lawyer tweeted that his client was later freed, adding that the accusations were “demonstrably false.”

The AP reported that Chris was released on $250,000 bail. The singer had been accused of violence in the past, including a 2009 assault on his then girlfriend, pop star Rihanna. Brown took to Instagram and posted videos for his 30 million followers. He accused the police of harassment in the videos. Once at Mr. Brown’s sprawling mansion, police officers were allegedly denied entry and had to wait for a judge to approve a search warrant before going inside to search for a weapon.

Rose’s Scoop: “The Pink Floyd Exhibition: Their Mortal Remains,” marking 50 years since the release of the band’s first single, will include a laser light show and previously unseen concert footage at the Victoria and Albert Museum. It will run from May to October 2017.

Wishing everyone a Safe and Happy Labor Day Weekend!
