Pipe-Bomb Scare Prompts Evacuation In Mission

SAN FRANCISCO—A portion of the Mission District, spanning two blocks, was evacuated on Friday, February 27 during a San Francisco Police Department investigation of a suspicious package.

The intersection of 23rd and Bartlett Streets was roped-off to the public, after a civilian reported a suspicious package with pipes and wires sticking-out of its sides. The call was made at around 8 p.m., where a bomb squad robot was sent to investigate the device.

The device was suspected to be a pipe-Bomb.

Residents were forced to leave their homes for two hours, until the area was deemed safe.

The investigation revealed that the package contained an active device with timers and wires. However, the device itself was deemed a fake explosive contraption.
