SAN FRANCISCO—Monday, November 10  marked the beginning of opening arguments and testimony in the high-profile San Francisco Police Department corruption case in U.S. District Court.

Suspended Mission Station officers Ian Furminger and Edmond Robles are on trial for charges of theft, drug conspiracy, and civil rights violations.

The alleged crimes date back to 2011, when Furminger and Robles, along with four other officers facing prosecution, are suspected of conducting raids in which they confiscated laptops, money, and alcohol, failing to log their finds as official evidence.

Former Mission Station officer Reynaldo Vargas, who pleaded guilty to four felony charges last August, has agreed to testify against his former fellow officers.

The prosecution aims to shed light on an alleged history of thievery and corruption during the officers’ tenure in the plainclothes department of Mission Station. The trial is expected to resume on Thursday.
