HOLLYWOOD—It was a battle for the ages at the box-office this Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Not only did we have previous flicks from the past few weeks still tantalizing audiences, there were a bevy of new flicks including “Creed II,” “Ralph Breaks the Internet” and “Robin Hood” all vying to nab cinema lovers’ attention. So what flick would come out on top? It was the animated sequel, “Ralph Breaks the Internet” with an impressive $86.4 million since its release on November 21. Looks like animated and family flicks are back in a strong way now that the holidays are fast approaching.

Also delivering at the box-office was the sequel “Creed II” which earned $55.8 million since its release on Wednesday. Not bad, as the sequel managed to have a larger debut than its 2015 predecessor which earned $42 million during opening weekend. Nabbing third place was last week’s winner, “Fantastic Beats: The Crimes of Grindelwald with $43 million. “The Grinch” was not far behind with roughly $42 million for its third weekend in theaters, it’s possible both flicks could swap spots when official numbers come out on Monday.

Rounding out the top five was “Bohemian Rhapsody” with $19 million. Since its release at the beginning of November the biopic about Queen has earned over $150 million at the domestic box-office. Other new debuts not faring as well with audiences were “Robin Hood” with a dismal $14.7 million, while potential awards contender “Green Book” earned a tepid $7.4 million, but note the movie is only playing in fewer than 1100 theaters.

This weekend should be interesting with so many flicks in theaters still in theaters, and no major openings post the Thanksgiving holiday. Now that Thanksgiving is over, the real fun begins as Oscar fare starts to hit theaters. The best of the best of the year is upon us.
