HOLLYWOOD—10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1…Happy New Year 2015!  “What will 2015 bring?” It’s also the time of year that we make the same resolutions once again: Lose excess weight, quit smoking, get organized, improve time management, be a better person, get a better education, spend more time with family. New Years Eve is all about the kiss, right? I hope this New Year’s Eve, at midnight you kiss goodbye to everything that’s holding you back from achieving true potential and promise to change for the better. Only a handful of us will actually succeed, which is quite unfortunate.

There’s no shame in staying home and partying in front of your flat-screen TV, as long as you’ve got someone to vacuum up the confetti. As usual, with every year, upward of a million people will watch the ball drop as they count down to the New Year. The giant sphere is comprised of 2,688 crystal panels, all designed in Waterford, Ireland. This year, 288 crystals will be replaced with new ones designed to reflect the theme, “Gift of Fortitude.”

New Year’s Eve is known for music, from the traditional “Auld Lang Syne,” to the pop stars appearing with Ryan Seacrest in Times Square. Networks will ring in the New Year with several festive specials, including the infamous “Dick Clark’s Primetime New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest, which features Taylor Swift as the headlining act.

Sir Elton John will be ringing in the New Year in style. The music icon, will perform his anthem “I’m Still Standing,” in a special live appearance from Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, taking place right after the ball drops-making him the program’s first performer of 2015. This is the first time Elton John has performed in New York City on New Year’s Eve. Seacrest has hosted the special for nine years, so you know he will make the show unforgettable.

As we reflect on the past year, we look back on the trends, and music. This year solidified something that’s been clear for a few years now: When it comes to pop music, the ladies are killing it and are on point.

Beyonce, while her album technically came out in December 2013, there’s no denying that it was one of the biggest hits of 2014. Let’s not forget her cover of her own “Crazy in Love” turned the “Fifty Shades of Grey” into steamy hot. Ariana Grande had three mega hits in her album “My Everything,” proving her Nickelodeon days are really behind her.

Nicki Minaj, with her “Anaconda” scored a huge hit with this one. Iggy Azalea, the rapper had a huge break, teaming up with Charli XCX for “Fancy” and Ariana Grande for “Problem.” She’s the only act besides the Beatles to have her first two top 100 Billboard hits rank No. 1 and 2.

Taylor Swift who has been riding high for a few years now, continues to reign with her success of her pop album “1989.” Imagine having over 356 millions views on her video “Shake It Off.” A massive tour and endorsements helped the 25-year-old earn a whopping $57 million this year. A very good year for Miss Swift. Last but not least, Lorde, the 18-year-old who went from singer to producer this year by curating “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay-Part 1” soundtrack. She has earned the respect from critics and her peers.

Here are some of the top pop culture moments of 2014. Who could forget the ultimate Oscar selfie that took the internet by storm. Academy Award host Ellen DeGeneres took the star-studded selfie and posted it on Twitter. To date, the most re-tweeted photo ever. Kim Kardashian’s photo, with the image of physic’s-defying derriere did get attention, but not like Ellen’s.

Justin Bieber started off 2014, with a glassy-eyed mug shot after he was arrested for drag racing, driving under the influence and resisting arrest, Justin managed to make it out of 2014-alright, he’s still juggling multiple pending court cases for DUI, assaulting a driver and egging his neighbors home. In the end, Justin Bieber ended up with a private jet as a gift to himself for Christmas.
