SAN LEANDRO―A 26-year-old man ran his girlfriend over with a car during a domestic violence dispute in San Leandro on Wednesday, February 1. The victim, whose name has not been disclosed to the public died from injuries sustained.

The suspect, Kevin Velasco, was arrested on assault with a deadly weapon, domestic violence charges, and suspicion of murder said San Leandro Police Department Sgt. Dan Leja.

Around 11:50 p.m., authorities received several 911 calls about a man and woman fighting on the 400 block of Ruth Court in San Leandro’s Lower Bal neighborhood. One 911 caller told police the victim had been struck by a car.

Authorities said when police arrived on the scene, they found the woman underneath a vehicle. Paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

Police interviewed the woman’s boyfriend and witnesses. Neighbors say the suspect and his girlfriend lived together in the San Leandro duplex.

Velasco has not been charged, but is currently sitting in jail and facing charges of homicide, felony domestic violence and assault with a deadly weapon.
