SAN FRANCISCO—The San Francisco Police Department is asking for the public’s help to apprehend the suspect responsible for an assault that led to the death of a man. The incident occurred on January 29, at approximately 9:13 a.m., when SFPD officers arrived on the scene of Mission and Excelsior Streets after receiving a report of a person who was stabbed and bleeding from the head.

According to a press release from the SFPD, the victim, Marco Perez-Diaz, 58, of San Francisco was found on the ground suffering from multiple stab wounds to the head. Paramedics from the San Francisco Fire Department provided aide, but the victim died from injuries sustained at San Francisco General Hospital.

SFPD Homicide Investigators initiated an investigation that led to the release of images of the suspect. On Wednesday, February 8, at 8:43 a.m. officers from the Daly City Police Department spotted an individual matching the description of the suspect released by the SFPD. Officials from the DCPD detained, Aaron Tagata, 23, of Daly City at Mission Street and Templeton Avenue in the Daly City region.

SFPD Homicide investigators were notified, and after concluding an interview with Tagata, he was charged with murder (187 PC) and booked at San Francisco County Jail. Authorities have not yet released Tagata’s booking photo as the investigation is still ongoing.
