SAN FRANCISCO—A Las Vegas man accused of stalking his ex-girlfriend was arrested in Nevada on February 16 and is awaiting extradition to California.

According to a press release from the San Francisco Police Department, authorities began looking for Tarif Bailey, 34, after a February 5 incident when his ex-girlfriend contacted the SFPD. She alerted officers that Bailey had threatened to kill her and that he was stalking her. Members of the SFPD’s Special Victims Unit (SVU) were notified and commenced an investigation.

Over the course of the investigation, the SVU developed probable cause for an arrest on suspicion of stalking and a warrant for Bailey’s arrest was granted. On February 16,  the SFPD SVU acquired information on Bailey’s whereabouts and coordinated with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department to take Bailey into custody. He was arrested without incident and was booked with several felony counts of stalking and threats.

Officials are asking anyone with information on the case to contact the SFPD anonymously at (415) 575-4444 or text-a-tip to TIP411 and begin the text message with SFPD.

The San Francisco Police Department Special Victims Unit was launched by SF Mayor Edwin M. Lee on October 20, 2011 to investigate sensitive crimes that frequently have women, children and the elderly as victims.
