SAN FRANCISCO—On Thursday, November 13, current and former members from the San Francisco Police Department met at Pine and Franklin Streets to remember fallen Officer James Guelff who died in the line of duty 20 years ago on November 13, 1994.

A memorial service was held at 6:00 p.m. at Pine and Franklin where the public and media are allowed to attend. Officer Guelff was fatally shot by a carjacking suspect who opened fire with a semi-automatic rifle. Officer Guelff returned fire at the suspect before he died. The suspect had hundreds of rounds of ammunition, was wearing a ballistic helmet and a flak jacket.

He was shot and killed by members of the San Francisco Tactical Division (SWAT). Officer Guelff served the SFPD for more than 10 years and is survived by his two children.
