HOLLYWOOD—Even celebrities will be wearing green on St. Patrick’s Day on March 17. The fun part about it is, you don’t have to be Irish to join in on the festivities. All you need to do is put on your green clothes and be ready to party.In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, we’re taking a look at some celebrities from Irish descent.

Sure, everyone knows that Bono and Colin Farrell like to celebrate their Irish heritage. However, did you know that Demi Lovato, has a bit of Irish in her, she gets it from her mom’s side. The Jonas Brothers, come from Italian, German, Irish, English, Cherokee and French-Canadian heritage. Darren Criss, the “Glee” star gets his Irish side from his father. Zooey Deschanel, claims an Irish background.

The sultry actress Olivia Wilde, is from an Irish heritage. Dane Cook is from an Irish heritage. Golden Globe and Academy Award winning director, Quentin Tarantino, mother is of Irish heritage. Pierce Brosnan was born in Ireland, Daniel Day-Lewis has both a British and Irish citizenship. Actor Liam Neeson, was born in Northern Ireland. Jonothan Rhys Meyers was born in Dublin, Ireland.

It’s a time for merriment, celebration and if you’re over 21, it’s time for green beer. If you missed out on some parades, here are a few places to enjoy yourself. Casey’s St. Patrick’s Day Annual Street festival in front of the bar on Grand Avenue in Downtown LA. There will be food, drinks, games and DJs. Admission will be free before 3:00 pm.

A free outdoor lunchtime concert with Hollywood U2, Bad Haggis and the Cleary Irish Dancers will take place at Pershing Square which will begin at 11 a.m., with the concert at noon. Another free event is at the LA Farmers Market which is an all-day celebration. Magee’s Kitchen will be serving up their famous corned beef, cabbage and potatoes and the green beer and imported Irish beers will be flowing.

Strolling the market will be Glen the Bagpiper from 12: 30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and a live Irish Band on the West Patio at 7 p.m. The historic Tam O’Shanter will be green on St. Paddy’s Day. Plenty of green beer along with live bands in the tented area. There will be three days and nights of bar-hopping in Hollywood from St. Patrick’s Day through Saturday. With all these events if you will drink, do not drive. The event Hollywood St. Paddy’s Day Pub Crawl will cost anywhere from $15 -$30 for a single day. A DJ party at the historic Pig n’ Whistle will take place on St. Patrick’s Day as well, included in the Hollywood Pub crawl for those serious party-goers. If you want comedy, the Hollywood Laugh Factory will celebrate with stand-up Irish comedians. Then the Shamrock n ‘Roll aboard the Queen Mary at Long Beach. The party will take place on Friday, March 18. The celebration will feature two simultaneous Celtic entertainment venues on the Promenade Deck in the Grand Salon and Royal Salon featuring Hoist the Colors, California Celts, Craic Haus and more.

The biggest Irish event of the month will take place at the Celtic Fair in Pomona on March 19-20 at the Fairplex in Pomona. This is not the same as the Big Irish Fair, which takes place in June in Long Beach. The event this weekend includes carnival rides, dancing , dining, vendors, crafts and more. Preparations are in full swing for the festivities across the globe from Ireland to California, Boston, Chicago and New York City. If all else fails, you can tune in to the NYC St. Patrick’s Day parade that takes place on March 17, the date which marks the death of St. Patrick-the patron saint of Ireland.
