HOLLYWOOD—It was perhaps one of the most highly anticipated TV movies to arrive in years, “Sharknado 2: The Second One.” It’s the follow-up to the 2013 Syfy hit that took audiences by surprise, with its ridiculous plot, brain dead characters and over the top antics.

The success of the first movie, inevitably led to its sequel, “Sharknado 2: The Second One” which sees our survivors Fin (Ian Ziering) and April (Tara Reid) traveling to New York City to visit his sister Ellen (Kari Wuhrer) and her hubby Martin (Mark McGrath).

The opening sequence of the movie is something out of those epic B-movies of the 1950s that sees Fin and April in a chaotic state of mind as they realize a second sharknado is on the horizon on the east coast. I’ll just say what transpires on this airplane and the craziness of the shark attack is epic. My biggest gripe with this sequel is it didn’t have the outlandish factor that the first movie presented to audiences. I felt the characters were so determined to halt the sharknado attack vs. attempting to flee for safety.

There was way too much running around of NYC taking place and our group of ‘heroes’ doing everything in their power to save the residents of NYC from an impending attack that only Fin and April know how to handle. The acting in the first movie wasn’t as bad in my opinion. Unfortunately, the acting in the sequel came across much worse than the first installment, I barely felt connected to any of the characters except for Fin and April, everyone else were disposable in my opinion.

There are a sleuth of celebrity cameos in the film including Al Roker, Matt Lauer, Kelly Osbourne, Andy Dick, Billy Ray Cyrus, Perez Hilton, Kelly Ripa, and so many more. I will acknowledge the way the crew dispatches of the sharknado is unique compared to the first installment on the west coast.

Perhaps the biggest problem with this sequel is the believability element. While the first film was completely outlandish, the thought of a possible tornado happening on the west coast is not out of the question. Unfortunately, thinking a tornado is possible on the east coast in the midst of a snowstorm was a bit far-fetched in my eyes. There are definitely some amazing kills thanks to a chainsaw, Freon and other weapons used to protect the citizens of New York.

I must say as disappointed as I was with “Sharknado 2: The Second One,” I can’t wait to see what transpires with “Sharknado 3.” Don’t worry, the sequel is expected to arrive in 2015. So it’s only about 11 months away.
