BEVERLY HILLS—R&B singer and actor Ray J was arrested on Friday, May 30 by officers from the Beverly Hills Police Department.

The BHPD indicated in a press release to Canyon News that at around 7:30 p.m. officers responded to a sexual battery at the Beverly Wilshire hotel located on the 9500 block of Wilshire Boulevard, where Ray J, legal name William Ray Norwood Jr., 33, was involved in an altercation at the bar.

During the alleged incident, it was suspected that Ray J grabbed the buttocks of a female. Authorities later concluded that no sexual battery occurred and the contact was incidental.

Mr. Norwood spoke with officers and agreed to leave the hotel, where he entered the valet region and became belligerent with valet patrons and refused to leave. The Beverly Wilshire hotel security requested a private persons arrest after asking Mr. Norwood on multiple occasions to leave.

When Mr. Norwood was taken into custody by uniform officers he became belligerent and shattered the side window of the police vehicle. Authorities removed him from the vehicle to restrain his feet, when he became combative and spat into the face of one of the officers.

Ray J was charged with trespassing, vandalism, resisting arrest and battery on a police officer. The singer’s bail has been set at $20,000.
