SAN FRANCISCO—A fatal hit-and-run crash left one man dead in San Francisco on Friday, March 11. Police are searching for the vehicle that struck the 63-year-old man in Chinatown on Powell and Broadway Streets. The victim has not yet been identified to the public. Authorities have disclosed that the victim lived nearby the scene of the incident. 

In the early hours of the morning just before 6:00 a.m., a witness called police to report a body in the street. According to San Francisco Police Department Spokesman, Officer Albie Esparza, a white, windowless van was driving southbound on Powell Street making a right onto Broadway near the Broadway tunnel when the victim was struck. 

Witnesses saw the incident, but mentioned it was unclear whether he was using a crosswalk or had the right of way. Police are investigating and searching for the van matching the witness descriptions. Authorities have indicated that the van sustained front fender damage and was last seen driving south on Powell Street before making a right turn on Broadway.
