HOLLYWOOD—The second installment in “The Amazing Spiderman” has not yet even hit movie screens, but that did not stop Sony Pictures from announcing on Monday, June 17 that a third and fourth chapter in America’s favorite web slinger will hit multiplexes on June 10, 2016 and May 4, 2018.  Titles for the upcoming sequels have not yet been announced.

“The Amazing Spiderman,” a reboot to the initial series started by director Sam Raimi hit theaters in 2012 to mix reviews from critics.  I personally thought the picture was an interesting direction for the superhero. Taking over directorial duties was director Marc Webb who will also return for “The Amazing Spiderman 2” slated to arrive on May 2, 2014.  Andrew Garfield reprises his role as Peter Parker, as does Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy.  A few photos have leaked that have caused speculation about Stacy’s chances for survival for a third go around.  Both actors will be joined by Oscar-winner Jamie Foxx who will portray the villain Electro.  Rounding out the cast is Paul Giamatti as The Rhino, Chris Cooper as Norman Osborn and Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn.

News surfaced on Wednesday from an interview with Entertainment Weekly where Shailene Woodley revealed that her role as Mary Jane has been cut from the flick.  Its quite a shocking development as so many were certain that Woodley’s involvement was a plot detail whichindicated where the franchise would be heading.  Its been revealed that her character will not be introduced until the third installment in the franchise. With this new development it leaves me a bit skeptical about the sequel, but at the same time curious as to what will transpire next.
