HOLLYWOOD HILLS—Keya Morgan, 43, was arraigned last week on Tuesday June 4. Morgan is being charged for false imprisonment and stealing money from Marvel Comics creator Stan Lee, 95, who died in November 2018.
Morgan is the former manager of Lee, who was arrested last month and taken into custody in Arizona. Authorities indicated that Morgan netted approximately $262,000 in Lee’s autograph signing sessions.
According to a statement from the Los Angeles Police Department, Morgan’s arrest was done with the assistance of authorities from Phoenix Police Department and Scottsdale Police Department.
Morgan appeared at the Foltz Criminal Justice Center in Department 30. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced the following charges against Morgan: one felony count of false imprisonment of an elder by use of fraud and deceit, three felony counts of grand theft from an elder of more than $950 and one misdemeanor count of elder abuse for knowingly and willfully inflicting mental suffering on the victim. The grand theft charges include an allegation of taking more than $100,000 through fraud and embezzlement, according to the felony complaint filed for arrest warrant on May 10.
In May and June 2018, Morgan is accused of taking money belonging to Lee and falsely imprisoning him in a location outside of his home.
Morgan has pled not guilty to the charges against him. A new hearing was set to happen last Thursday to determine the source of his suggested bail.
Lee is know for co-creating such iconic superheroes like Spider-Man, the X-Men, Thor, The Hulk, Iron Man, the Fantastic Four and many more. He was known to make cameos in many of the big screen adaptions of the characters he help create.
Morgan if convicted as charged could face up to 10 years in prison.
