SAN FRANCISCO—Officers from the San Francisco Police Department were involved in a shooting that resulted in death of a carjacking suspect. According to a press release from the SFPD website, at carjacking was reported in Richmond at around 4:55 a.m. involving a female victim.

The Richmond PD was in pursuit of the suspect until the California Highway Patrol took over on US 580 to 101. The chase ensued over the Golden Gate Bridge into SF. The SFPD took over pursuit, where the vehicle lost authorities near Bush and Fremont.

Authorities received calls about a rollover accident at around 5:55 a.m. near California Street and Battery Street. Witnesses attempted to assist the suspect who began firing shots at them. One Good Samaritan was struck in the chest by a fragment, but did not sustain any life-threatening injury.

The suspect was attempting to escape the vehicle when officers arrived on the scene. They attempted to get the suspect to surrender his gun, but turned the weapon on the officers, and they fired several shots. The suspect was pronounced dead on the scene. Authorities have not yet released details on the identity of the suspect.
