SAN FRANCISCO—A San Francisco man convicted of sexually assaulting a woman who was unconscious was sentenced Monday, January 9 to 8 years in prison.

On November 16, 2016, Edison Bolanos, 39, was found guilty by a jury of oral copulation on an unconscious person.

Court records indicate the victim had met an acquaintance, the acquaintance’s girlfriend, and Bolanos at the Revolution Cafe in the Mission District of San Francisco around 9 p.m. on April 14, 2016. At midnight, when the Cafe closed, the group went to Bolanos’ apartment half a block away.

The victim reportedly lost consciousness and when she awoke, she was face-down and Bolanos was assaulting her. The victim’s acquaintance and the acquaintance’s girlfriend had left.

With the support of friends, the victim reported the assault and was examined at San Francisco General Hospital. Bolanos was arrested by police on April 20.

DNA tests confirmed the presence of the victim’s and Bolanos’ DNA on the victim’s underwear.

The San Francisco District Attorney’s Office reported the eight-year sentence reflects the prosecutor’s request for the maximum term.
