SAN FRANCISCO—A suspect was shot by an officer from the San Francisco Police Department as they were investigating a shooting that left one male injured and one dead. According to the SFPD, the incident transpired on Friday, February 16 at approximately 6:28 p.m. near Oak and Stanyan Streets. Preliminary info indicates that an argument ensued between a group of individuals when the male suspect shot the two victims

After the shooting, the suspect carjacked the driver of a Silver Toyota 4 Runner, license plate CA / 7AOB816 on Fell Street. On Saturday, February 17, at approximately 12:13 a.m., uniformed SFPD officers in a marked vehicle located the stolen Toyota on Alameda Street near De Haro Street. The Toyota was unoccupied and parked behind a recreational vehicle. Police determined that the RV was occupied and contacted the occupants to conduct a wellbeing check. Several individuals exited the RV. Officers determined one person was still inside the vehicle. Authorities made contact with the subject who remained in the RV and an officer involved shooting transpired.

The officers established a perimeter and requested the Tactical Unit and Crisis/Hostage Negotiation Team. The occupant of the RV failed to respond to officers’ orders to exit the vehicle. At approximately 2:20 a.m., the occupant exited the RV and was taken into custody. He was taken to a local hospital for evaluation. The SFPD Tactical Unit confirmed that there were no additional occupants in the RV at 3:05 a.m.

The occupant from the RV was person of interest in the homicide and carjacking from the earlier incident at Oak Street and Stanyan Street. Following an evaluation at the hospital, he was taken to the SFPD Homicide Detail for an interview. No one involved was injured by gunfire in the officer involved shooting incident. As part of our commitment towards transparency and accountability, a town hall meeting regarding the officer involved shooting will be held within ten days.

The suspect involved in the shooting of two males and the carjacking of the Silver Toyota 4 Runner is still at large. Authorities have noted the suspect is armed and dangerous. If anyone spots the vehicle, they are asked to take not of its location, do not approach and immediately contact 911.
