SAN FRANCISCO—Officials from the San Francisco Police Department are asking for the public’s assistance to capture a suspect involved in an aggravated assault on February 2 at approximately 1:00 a.m. on Bartlett Street between 22nd and 23rd.

The victim was walking southbound onBartlett   Streetas the suspect was walking in the opposite direction.  As the victim walked past the suspect he struck the victim multiple times.  The victim protected herself from the suspect by covering her face with her hands. The suspect fled the scene of the crime and is still on the loose. Authorities have indicated at the current state of the investigation, it does not appear to be a robbery or sexual assault.

Investigators from the Special Victims Unit believe the suspect may have also been involved in an assault that occurred on January 6. In that case, the assault took place at 2:40 a.m. near the area of 23rd and Church Streets.  The victim and suspect were walking in opposite directions when the suspect attacked the victim throwing her to the ground.  He straddled the victim before slamming her head to the ground.  The suspect fled the scene of the crime after hearing the victim scream for help.

Police suspect the incidents are connected as the suspect descriptions in both cases are similar, as well as the mode of attack.  Anyone with any information is urged to contact SVU Inspector Rico Castillo at (415) 734-3004.
