HOLLYWOOD—I really thought that the return of Linda Hamilton to the “Terminator” franchise after being absent for more than 30 years would revitalize the franchise for audiences, but that is not the case. Not even Hamilton and the return of Arnold Schwarzenegger could draw out audiences. “Terminator: Dark Fate” won the box-office over the weekend, but its victory was not impressive.

Why? It only brought in $29 million, and for a flick that cost $180 million to produce, in Hollywood terms the flick totally bombed. Overseas numbers were far more impressive, but it looks like “Dark Fate” might be the last chapter we see in the “Terminator” universe for a very long time people. Dropping to second place was “Joker” with $13.9 million. After over a month in the multiplex, “Joker” is just thousands of dollars from crossing the $300 million mark at the box-office.

Surprising many including myself was the debut of the drama “Harriet” which landed in third place with $12 million. The drama starring Cynthia Erivo opened to solid numbers considering it only opened in about 2,000 theaters. Dropping to fourth place was “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” with $12.2 million to bring its domestic box-office gross over $84 million.

Rounding out the top five was the animated feature “The Addams Family” with $8.5 million. This weekend sees the release of a bevy of new films including the romantic comedy “Last Christmas,” the family comedy “Playing With Fire” and the hotly anticipated sequel to the 80s classic, “Doctor Sleep.” It should indeed be a fun time at the box-office for audiences.
