true bloodHOLLYWOOD—Well it was the penultimate episode of “True Blood,” so what craziness transpired in “Love is to Die?” Well, no true deaths! Yep, for the first time, the writers are definitely saving a bombshell until the finale. Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll), Sookie (Anna Paquin), Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) and Pam (Kristen Bauer van Straten) where stunned to see Bill (Stephen Moyer) refuse to drink Sarah Newlin’s (Anna Camp) blood.

Jess released some harsh words to her maker, and so did Sookie, plus a few slaps. In the midst of all the chaos, Jessica asked Bill to release her, which he did. In the midst of dealing with the Bill situation, Sookie and Jess discovered that Sam (Sam Trammell) left town with Nicole.  Kind of a cheat, in terms of a goodbye for the audience; he was seen in flashbacks, not even interacting with the people who have come to know him best. Arlene (Carrie Preston) hosted a shindig at the restaurant, but Sookie’s news of Sam’s departure took many of them by surprise.

Hoyt (Jim Parrack) and Bridgette’s relationship fell apart with the revelation that he didn’t want kids. This prompted Hoyt to bond with his one true love Jessica, while Bridgette bonded with Jason (Ryan Kwanten). It’s funny how things operate in the “True Blood” universe. When Bridgette asked Jason to come to her rescue, he didn’t expect Hoyt to deliver a knockout punch to the face.

Arlene was not pleased with Sookie’s sour mood, so she delivered another heart-to-heart talk to her friend about life. Eric decided to pay Bill a visit to talk some sense into his friend, and both realized that Sookie has a special place in both of their hearts and “death” was inevitable. Eric paid Sookie a visit to discuss Bill and the bond between the friends continued to grow. In a happy place, Eric decided to give Ginger (Tara Buck) what she has been begging for by having sex with his minion. It had to be one of the funniest moments on the show.

In another light-hearted moment, Pam decided to give Sarah a hair job, which led to a stunning life or death moment with the Yakuza. I mean how many times has Pam placed Eric in a life or death situation this season; I want to say almost three to four times minimum. The contraption was just another tease from Mr. Gus to play with Eric’s emotions, how far would he go to protect Pam, what about Sookie?

For a moment, I suspect Pam was about to meet the true death; I still think that theory will play out in the final episode. The big surprise was the final moments which saw Eric being forced to reveal to Mr. Gus that Sookie knows about Sarah and was later forced to divulge his former flame’s residence. I have a feeling Eric might tell a fib, but I could be wrong. Thankfully, Bill arrived at Sookie’s door, because a bloodbath looks to be on the horizon. So who will make it to the end? Next week marks the end of a series that literally caused the vampire craze to go in overload. Until next Sunday “True Blood” lovers!
