HOLLYWOOD—The entertainment industry is very lucrative, it is a multi-billion industry. Particularly in Hollywood, which is the number one movie industry, followed by Bollywood (the Indian movie industry) and then Nigeria-Nollywood. Acting is one of the professions that have been around for over two thousand years.
It is a natural endowment that some folks exhibit that causes one to appreciate the fact that indeed some actors are naturally born to act. You watch them on TV and you are mesmerized by the way they perform their roles. Sometimes you wonder if what you see them do on screen is actually the way they are in reality. You have come to love some of them to the point where you consider them as role models. You pattern your life after them and look up to them. Yet, if you were to get on stage with some of these “idols,” of yours you would take them to the cleaners and back. Acting is one profession that gives you fame and popularity. And there are things fame and popularity can buy that money cannot buy. So if you think you have what it takes, why not.
Sofia Vergara, has what it takes. The modern star has retained her title as the highest paid actress on US television, according to the latest Forbes magazine rich list. Forbes said Vergara’s role as Gloria in the TV sitcom “Modern Family” and some lucrative endorsements helped her earn $43 million in the last 12 months.
It marks the fifth year the Columbian-American actress has topped the chart. Forbes also said she earned more than any of her male counterparts in the past year. “The Big Bang Theory’s” Kaley Cuoco was the second-highest paid actress, earning $24.5 million. Cuoco last year tied with Vergara at the top of last year’s Forbes list, when both actresses earned $28.5 million. “The Mindy Project’s” Mindy Kaling is the biggest climber in this year’s chart. Her earnings of $15 million helped her rise from eighth place in 2015 to third this year.
Mariska Hargitay, who appears in “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” and “Grey’s Anatomy” star Ellen Pompeo rounded off the top five. Other actresses include Kerry Washington at $13.5 million, Stana Katic at $12 million and Priyanka Chopra who appears in ABC drama “Quantico,” with an earning at $11 million. Dwayne Johnson might be a bit superstitious. He is pulling out all the stops to make sure the production of his upcoming “Jumanji” sequel goes off without a hitch-including getting blesses by a Hawaiian priest. The Rock took to Instagram on Wednesday to share a video of himself and the entire “Jumanji” cast and crew, who are shooting the film in Hawaii, as they participated in a ceremony meant to bring good luck to the forthcoming production.
The star landed in Hawaii about three days ago with his family, and celebrated with an Instagram pic of the occasion, writing, “We’ve missed you Hawaii. So good to be home.” Johnson has been promoting the film- which he says is a continuation of Robin Williams’ beloved 1995 classic, rather than a remake- and recently gave his fans the thrill of the first look at the concept art for his character, the “Smoldering Dr. Bravestone.” The “Jumanji” sequel is yet another in a long line of massive blockbusters starring the former professional wrestler, who landed the world’s highest paid actor earning a whopping $64.5 million.
