SAN FRANCISCO—Two homicides occurred in San Francisco on Thursday, December 29, both within two hours of each other.

The San Francisco News briefly spoke with the San Francisco Police Department Media Relations Office about the incidents. The first homicide occurred in the Tenderloin District. Authorities were notified of a shooting at around 5:15 p.m. Gunfire broke out in front of the Service Employees International Union, north of the Civic Center on the 200 block of Golden Gate Avenue between Hyde and Leavenworth Streets.

The victim was identified as a 39 year-old man who later succumbed from injuries he sustained from the shooting after being taken to San Francisco General Hospital. A second individual, a 41 year-old man was shot, but is suspected to survive. The suspects in that shooting were both armed with handguns. Police have not released descriptions of the suspects to the public.

A second shooting occurred at around 6:25 p.m. in the Mission District, where a 38 year-old man was shot on the 200 block of Valencia Street. The victim was pronounced dead upon arriving at a local hospital.

The suspect in that case has been described as a 35 year-old man who was armed an unknown firearm.  The SFPD has not released the identities of the victims in either shooting.
