SAN FRANCISCO—Two women were seriously injured after falling from a third story balcony that collapsed on October 27 in the Outer Sunset District, reported the San Francisco Fire Department.

According to reports, four people were standing on the balcony, that inspectors called a metal decorative balcony, when it collapsed around 12:00 a.m. on Lawton Street between 26th and 27th Avenues.

Two men standing on the balcony managed to prevent themselves from falling. The two women who were with them fell to the ground. The victims were transported to San Francisco General Hospital to be treated for injuries they sustained. Both were listed in stable condition as of Saturday afternoon.

The Associated Press reported that dry rot within the wooden beams were responsible for the balcony collapsing.
