SAN FRANCISCO—A 24 year-old Uber driver was followed and shot at through his car window by a man on foot on Saturday, December 24. The window was shattered with bullet holes.

The Uber driver, who has chosen to be referred to as Mohammad due to safety reasons, is an Afghan refugee living in Sacramento with his two children. He was working on Oak and Gough Streets when he noticed a man following him on foot. The suspect followed the driver for a few blocks before running towards his vehicle and firing a gun at his window at approximately 2:00 a.m. Saturday.

“He takes out the gun and he shoots me, fortunately, the bullet just pass from my face” Mohammad reported to FOX 40 and ABC7 News. The victim who stands at  6 feet and 2 inches tall , believes that because he sits his seat back to rest comfortably while driving, it may have saved his life.

The Uber driver filed reports with both the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) and Uber. The SFPD have not released any details regarding suspects in the shooting, noted Sgt. Michael Andraychak. Uber representatives noted that Mohammad informed the company of the incident.
