UCSF Recieves $100 Million Donation

SAN FRANCISCO—Charles Feeney, a philanthropist famed for his mission of donating his considerable fortune to charitable causes, has given $100 million to the University of California San Francisco Medical Center.

A billionaire before his donating spree, Feeney’s gift is the largest ever given in the history of the a University of California. Including his most recent donation, Feeney, 83, has given a total of $394 million to UCSF.

UCSF officials say the funds will go towards medical students, faculty, and hospital development. A significant portion of the money will also go towards research and care concerning neuroscience and aging.

Initially worth $7.5 billion, Feeney’s philanthropic donations will dry-up his once substantial fortune.

In a statement, Feeney expressed, “gratification from knowing that my investments in medical research, education and the delivery of health care at UCSF will provide lifelong benefits to millions of people not only in the Bay Area but also around the world.”
