HOLLYWOOD—Throughout most of August, the biopic “Straight Outta Compton” held its grip on the box office. Well, the grip is finally over. The Christian-based drama “War Room” rose to the top, earning $9.4 million after its second weekend in theaters.

That is an amazing feat. The movie only lost around $2 million in earnings from the previous week and has already earned over $25 million. Looks like “War Rom” will continue to grow its audience through word of mouth buzz.

“Straight Outta Compton” landed in second place earning $8.8 million and has now grossed over $150 million at the domestic box office. Robert Redford and Nick Nolte’s new film, “A Walk In the Woods,” nabbed third place with $8.3 million. Proving that he still has power with moviegoers is Tom Cruise, as “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation” landed in fourth place with $7.2 million. The film is only about $20 million shy of crossing the $200 million mark at the domestic box office.

Rounding out the top five was the fourth installment in the “Transporter” franchise, “The Transporter: Refueled” which took in $7.1 million. This weekend sees the release of the thriller “The Perfect Guy” starring Michael Ealy, Morris Chestnut and Sanaa Lathan.
