OAKLAND—The Golden State Warriors set a franchise record for most points in a 149-106 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday, November 23.
Steph Curry led all scorers with 31 points, nine rebounds and five assists in the Warriors ninth consecutive victory. Curry made a game high seven 3-pointers after missing all 10 attempts in his first game against the Lakers earlier this season.
Kevin Durant had 28 points, six rebounds and five assists while Klay Thompson scored 26 points; Rookie Ian Clark added 21 points off the bench for Golden State.
Head coach Steve Kerr cited how Durant has fit with the Warriors since joining the team this summer.
“He came here for a reason,” Kerr said. “I think he enjoyed watching us play in recent years, and I think he wanted to be a part of it, and he fits right in.”
Rookie Brandon Ingram scored 16 points while making the starting lineup for the first time in his NBA career, filling in at the forward spot for the injured Julius Randle (hip-pointer).
Lou Williams and Jordan Clarkson had 16 points each while coming off of the bench in the Lakers eighth loss of the season.
Los Angeles’ head coach Luke Walton was complimentary of Golden State, who he led to a 39-4 record last season as interim head coach.”
“The 47 assists is one of the greatest stats I’ve ever heard of,” Walton said after the game. “Unfortunately, it happened against us. To me, that’s basketball at its best.”
The Lakers are now 8-8 overall, tied for sixth in the Western Conference.
The Warriors are second in the Western Division with a record of 13-2. Los Angeles and Golden State will play against each other for the second straight game on Friday, November 25 at Staples Center.
