SAN FRANCISCO—A Southwest Airlines passenger, reportedly gave birth mid-air on a Phoenix-bound flight from San Francisco.

Shortly after the flight’s 6:24 a.m. departure, the woman gave birth with the assistance of both a nurse and doctor that happened to be on board.

The flight attendants proceeded to alert the Captain. With the help of air traffic control, the plane was diverted to nearby LAX, where mother and child were met by an emergency response team.

In a video posted to Southwest’s website, one flight attendant said: “It was amazing. All the passengers were awesome. Everybody was clapping.”
