SAN FRANCISCO—On Monday, July 27, the San Francisco Police Department reported that several juveniles were arrested for a robbery.
The SFPD reported on July 21, at approximately 1:19 p.m. officers responded to the 1700 block of Post St. in the Northern Police District. Officers were advised that a suspect battered the victim, stole his phone, and fled from the scene on foot.
Upon hearing of the robbery, SFPD’s Real Time Investigation Center (RTIC) officers reviewed surveillance footage in the area and observed the robbery that was just reported. RTIC disseminated photographs of two suspects involved in the robbery to all sworn SFPD personnel.
Based on prior robbery investigations, officers knew the stolen property is often sold in the Tenderloin District. RTIC investigators reviewed surveillance footage in an area known for selling stolen property and located the two robbery suspects.
RTIC alerted citywide plainclothes officers, who were nearby. Plainclothes officers located the suspects and took them into custody after a brief foot pursuit. The suspects were identified as a 15-year-old male and a 14-year-old male. Due to the ages of the suspects, the names will not be released. The suspects were searched, and several cell phones were located and seized. One of the cell phones recovered belonged to the victim from the Post Street robbery.
Through further investigation, officers discovered that one of the seized cell phones belonged to a victim who was robbed on a MUNI coach the night before in the Mission District, which was not yet reported. This victim responded to Tenderloin Station to collect his recovered cell phone. The two suspects were booked into the San Francisco Juvenile Justice Center for robbery, conspiracy, possession of stolen property, and resisting arrest.
