HOLLYWOOD—Beauty, fashion, makeup and glitz were at the Los Angeles International Make-Up Artist Trade Show (IMATS) that took place on January 15-17 at the Pasadena Convention Center in Pasadena. Make-up pros from fashion and film were all present including the IMATS make-up museum which featured a full-size Marilyn Monroe sculpted by Andy Schoneberg. The sculpture was truly amazing.
What’s truly amazing is Madonna, who at the age of 57, is still the queen of pop. Over the weekend, Madonna performed two concerts on her Rebel Heart tour in Miami. The singer’s joyous time in the Sunshine State comes in the midst of a custody dispute with Guy Ritchie, 47. It seems that their 15-year-old son has been living with his father in London despite a judge’s order that he return to New York to live with his mom.
Despite her international custody battle, it doesn’t stop her from putting on an incredible show. According to reports, after her performance she was joined by pals such as Ariana Grande, Naomi Campbell and Faena developer Alan Faena among other guests. Jonathan Cheban even flew in from New York to catch her show. Madonna also celebrated her daughter Mercy James 10th birthday, bringing the little one on stage and giving her a cupcake and candle at her show January 23. Madonna has frequently operated on the edges, pushing sexual boundaries in her recordings and public performances. Guinness World Records has labeled her the most successful female artist of all time. She has come along way from her first hit album “Madonna,” in 1983.
Just like Madonna, the show must go on. Get ready for the month of February, a very busy month. The Super Bowl, Grammys, and Oscars. If you are interested in attending Super Bowl 50 in San Francisco, on February 7, it’s not too late. You can purchase a ticket for about $5,000 a piece and that’s the least expensive to cheer for either the Carolina Panthers or the Denver Broncos.
The 58th Grammy Awards will take place on February 15, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. One of the highlights of the show will be the 10-time Grammy winner Adele, who is scheduled to perform. She will be returning to the Grammy stage after four years, and will perform a track from her chart-topping album “25.” Many surprises are in store, including a tribute to Lionel Richie.
Last but not least, the 88th Academy Awards ceremony will be held on February 28 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. Besides the boycott concerning the lack of diversity, I still believe millions will tune in. Actor Chris Rock will host for the second time, having previously hosted back in 2005. Let’s see if he will bring the house down with his funny satire. I won’t be stargazing into my crystal ball for the Oscars, to predict the winners. The element of surprise to watch the winner pick up the 8 1/2 pound Oscar plated in copper, silver, nickel and 24-karat gold will certainly be excitement and fun enough to see who’s been doing weight curls.
Rose’s Scoop: Fox Searchlight Pictures won the bidding war at the Sundance Film Festival for “The Birth of a Nation.” Fox Searchlight didn’t disclose the amount of its winning bid, however, its been reported to be a record-setting $17.5 million.
