“Glass” Wins Box-Office, “Serenity” Bombs

Samuel L. Jackson stars in the psychological thriller "Glass."

HOLLYWOOD—I did not suspect the new arrivals in theaters, “The Kid Who Would Become King” or “Serenity” to dethrone last week’s box-office champion “Glass” and I was not wrong. The supernatural thriller remained at the top spot at the box-office with $19 million. After 2 weeks in theaters, the final chapter in a trilogy has earned over $73 million at the domestic box-office.

Staying comfortable in second place was the dramedy “The Upside” with $12.4 million. The film has a strong base earning over $63 million in three weeks. Also comfortable in its previous spot was the DC flick “Aquaman” with $7.4 million. “The Kid Who Would Become King” debuted in fourth place with a meek $7.3 million, while “Serenity” starring Anne Hathaway and Matthew McConaughey bombed terribly with $4.8 million to land in eighth place.

Rounding out the top five was the animated flick “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” with $6.2 million. The animated feature has amounted $169 million at the domestic box-office. Expect “Glass” to potentially win the box-office for the third consecutive weekend, with very and I mean very slim pickings at the box-office this weekend.
