HOLLYWOOD—Facebook is almost a thing of the past, especially promotional posts. Promotional posts are usually posts with specific goals-meaning they want you to buy something fast. Usually pushy posts that push people to enter promotions or sweepstakes with no real context. To be honest, it’s a bit annoying to see people push their products and the majority of people don’t appreciate being bombarded on their newsfeed. You don’t see Ferrari, or Bentley pushing their product.
Facebook is one social network that actually legitimizes relationships, or lets you know what others are doing or feeling. You’ll see “I’m feeling annoyed,” “I’m excited.” Does anyone really care? No, but you still check in, to read the latest posts, possibly to get amused.
Then you have Twitter, a step-up from Facebook. Where you can tweet, retweet, vent or just talk to yourself if you don’t have any followers. Twitter as of January 2016, has 320 million active users. Not bad for being launched on July 15, 2006. Its revenue as of last year is $2.21 billion.
What can I say about Instagram? Its six years old and growing. People love to post selfies, even over 50. Selfies attract a wide range of viewers as seen by Justin Bieber’s Instagram account. Bieber’s selfie with Selena Gomez acquired 1.82 million likes. You may recall the hit song “Selfie,” two years ago by “The Chainsmokers.” Don’t forget you have “Throwback Thursday,” Flashback Friday,” with the hashtag in front.
This trend reached popularity through celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and Molly Sims. Let’s not forget the filters, videos. Instagram was created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger and launched in October 2010 as a free mobile app. Instagram was acquired by Facebook in April 2012 for approximately $1 billion in cash and stock. In 2013, Instagram grew by 23 percent, while Facebook, as the parent company, only grew by 3 percent.
Then came Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy and Reggie Brown and Snapchat was conceived in September 2011. Snapchat is amazing, especially with its new filters. This year, Snapchat hit 7 billion daily video views. Depending on the source, the company has a valuation of $10-$20 billion. That’s not bad for a mobile app where content disappears after it has been viewed. Snapchat’s 30 million monthly users remain largely under the age of 25. But you will see older people on it, as well, in the now-you-see-it-now-you-don’t social platform.
Even Hollywood is onboard. So which celebrities do you follow on Snapchat? Meghan Trainor you will find comical and even has snaps of her cats. Another celebrity is Justin Bieber who loves to sing on his Snapchat; skateboarding and hanging out with his famous friends. Then you have his friend Hailey Baldwin, who loves to rant. The princess of selfies is Kylie Jenner, her snaps consist of ever-changing hairstyles and photo shoots. Kim Kardashian is the queen of selfies. Her brother Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna are engaged.
The couple, who have only been dating three months, shared the happy news on Instagram on April 4. “Yes!!!” The model and beauty entrepreneur captioned a photo showing off her massive diamond ring. Rob shared his own photo on Instagram with a picture of Chyna holding a wad of cash and sporting her new ring. Let’s begin, Chyna has a 3-year-old son, King Cairo, with Tyga, who is currently dating Rob’s sister Kylie Jenner. Which means that Rob will act as both a stepfather and uncle to King Cairo if Tyga and Kylie stay together. In the meantime, Rob seems to be slimming down and seems very happy. The Kardashian clan boarded a flight and went on vacation, so no comments from the clan yet.
Another celebrity who loves to snap is Rihanna. She loves to dance and shake her booty. Last but not least, Joe Jonas loves to snap as well, especially with special effect filters. One person that should be on is Axl Rose, to let the world know that “Not In This Lifetime Tour,” begins June 23, in Detroit.
Following months of rumors and speculations, Guns N’ Roses confirmed they will embark on a North American summer stadium tour with former members Slash and Duff McKagan. How exciting that Slash and Axl Rose buried the hatchet. According to TMZ, it was Fred Durst last September who was taking credit for Slash and Axl Rose talking again.
Rose’s Scoop: The Rolling Stones have confirmed they’re working on a new, bluesy inspired album which is planned for release this year. The Stones recently made their concert debut in Havana, Cuba.
