HOLLYWOOD—Summer just flew by, didn’t it? You meant to take that European vacation, however it just didn’t happen. Now Labor Day is upon us. Labor Day is for backyard barbeques and picnics, and a time to celebrate America’s everyday heroes—the working people. Hollywood celebrities usually travel to either France, Italy or London, while others decide to cruise the high seas.

The awe-inspiring superyacht Nirvana—the 6-deck, 290-foot-long ship hosts 12 guests, with a crew of 26 tending to their every whim—has such amenities as a 3-D cinema, full gym, multiple jet skis and water ski boats and 2 vivariums populated by water dragons and bearded lizards! Being on the Nirvana means that you can hang out in the middle of the ocean or dock in Monaco, and get a tux and play at the casino for the night.

Oprah Winfrey usually ventures out onto Richard Branson’s Necker Island, a private island resort in the British Virgin Islands composed of a collection of Balinese-style abodes, with it lies 74 acres of fringing coral reef, a submarine which you can charter, and a huge 32-person Jacuzzi among the many amenities. Needless to say, all for a whopping $42,500 per night for up to 16 people. Some opt to jet-set on the Out islands of the Exumas in the Bahamas, where David Copperfield’s Musha Cay is stunning with its sandbar, open-air theater on the beach and 5 plantation-style guest houses, with their own private beach. The property accommodates up to 24 guests at $37,500 per night for up to 12 people. For an extra $25,000 you get a private fireworks display or a rare vintage Champagne flown in especially for the affluent clientele.

Fashion divas dictate that Labor Day weekend traditionally marks the end of wearing white. That’s right, my darlings, no more white pants, dresses, shoes or bikinis. That’s why on Labor Day weekend so many people throw the white party which has been a trend for years in the summertime. The only requirement is to wear white; sometimes these parties are taken to the next level, including white drinks, desserts and decor.

You know that’s a sure sign that summer is coming to an end and the awards season is around the corner: the 72nd Venice Film Festival opened on September 2 and runs through September 12. Under the hazy Italian sun, Hollywood stars such as Jake Gyllenhaal, Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin and Emily Watson attended the world premiere of “Everest” which kicked off the festival.

Baltasar Kormakur’s visceral drama is based on the true story of a deadly 1996 blizzard on the mountain. The media is already raving about the film, calling it “gripping and astonishing.” The film, shot on location in Nepal on the foothills of Everest, and also in the Italian Alps, will be released in the U.S. on September 18, exclusively on Imax 3D and premium-large format 3D screens, then released in 2D and 3D on September 25. The last two films that opened the Venice festival—”Gravity” in 2013 and “Birdman” last year—went on to major Oscar awards glory.

While other celebrities such as Anna Wintour, Alec Baldwin and wife Hilaria Baldwin, among others, attended the opening ceremony for the U.S. Open in the Ashe Stadium at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on August 31. Recording artist Josh Groban also performed.

Rose’s Scoop: Rihanna attended the launch of her fragrance “RiRi” by Rihanna at Macy’s on August 31 in Brooklyn, New York. Actress Brooke Shields loved the off-broadway opening night of “Whori Inside A Loop,” at the Second Stage Theatre in New York City.
