SF Shooting Leads To Barricaded Suspect

Authorities detained a woman after she fired a gun at the Crown Hotel and barricaded herself on March 25.

SAN FRANCISCO—Officials from the San Francisco Police Department detained a woman who barricaded herself in at the Crown Hotel at 528 Valencia St. and allegedly fired a gun on, Saturday, March 25.

Officers detained the suspect at around 11 a.m. outside an apartment in the 200 block of Turk Street where she gave herself up to police.

A bullet allegedly fired by the woman went through several walls, but there were no reports of any injuries during the incident. Authorities reported that the person appears to be in need of mental health assistance..

SFPD Police Captain Theresa Ewins told KCBS Radio that streets around the Salvation Army Corps Community Center on Turk Street were evacuated as a precaution, but those streets have since re-opened.

The identity of the woman has been revealed as Samantha Helstrom, 57. Helstrom was booked for criminal threats and brandishing a firearm.
