HOLLYWOOD—So many musicians and aspiring singers believe that getting signed with a label, even an indie label is better than nothing. While some may find that true, you have to keep in mind that indie labels have smaller budgets. When you are signed to a major label, you have more clout. You get on the big, market radio stations. Major record labels can afford to spend hundred of thousands of dollars on a signed recording artist.
Being a successful singer is a journey with many, many detours. You need to be extremely talented and very, very lucky, as well as being at the right time at the right place. When the goal is reached than an artist can enjoy being the star with the many perks that come with it, like the big house, fancy cars and jetting around in private jets. Some successful stars never stop performing, just look at Barbra Streisand.
Miss Streisand, 74, just announced a nine-city summer tour in August. She will begin her tour on August 2 at the Los Angeles Staples Center with the tour coming to an end on August 23 at the Toronto Air Canada Centre. Her new album titled, “Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway,” her longtime manager Marty Erlichman announced on May 16.
The album will be released after the tour ends, according to a release, which also stated the superstar will sing career hits as well as songs from Encore. Interestingly enough, every ticket purchase will include a physical release of the new album. “Encore,” follows Streisand’s 2014 album “Partners,” and will feature duets with some of “Hollywood’s biggest stars to sing Broadway classics.”
On the same day, Puff Daddy, born Sean Combs, 46, rapper and music mogul announced a new venture on social media, when he tweeted, “This isn’t just a concert! This is a hip-hop and R&B history! P. Diddy will be joined by former label mates Lil’ Kim, Faith Evans, Mase, Mario Winans, 112, Total, Carl Thomas and The Lox. French Montana, who is presently signed to Bad Boy Records, will be joining the tour.
The Bad Boy Family Reunion tour will kick off August 25 in Columbus, Ohio, and come to a close on October 8 in Oakland, California. Rolling Stone also reported Mary J. Blige and Jay Z will make guest appearances. Puff Daddy founded Bad Boy Records back in 1993. The superstar rapper released the mixtape MMM in December, and is working on his seventh studio album, “No Way Out 2,” which is a sequel to his debut record, No Way Out (1997).
Who remembers the Spice Girls? Three of five Spice Girls members reunited this past week, sending fans into a frenzy. Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton and Geri Halliwell recorded new music at Play Deep Studios in London. The Spice Girls reportedly recorded the track to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their debut album, “Spice,” which dropped in September 1996. They formed back in 1994 and last performed together at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. According to published reports, sources told Us Weekly the group are planning a reunion tour, albeit without Victoria Beckham and Melanie Chisholm. But who really knows if Victoria and Melanie will change their minds.
It must be the year of the reunions, Nick Carter two months ago confirmed plans for the Backstreet Boys reunion with a possible limited Las Vegas concert residency and possible tour with the Spice Girls. They also recorded a theme song for their small-screen zombie Western “Dead 7.”
Guns N’ Roses also announced some of the acts joining them on their “Not In This Liftime Tour,” Alice in Chains will join the group from June 23 through July 3, then Lenny Kravitz will be joining the reunited group from July 19 through July 24.
