HOLLYWOOD—Here in the United States we have Hollywood, which is full of entertainers, musicians and actors, however, millions of people each year go to England for one reason: to see Buckingham Palace. What is the obsession with the royals? We are programmed to absorb an enormous amount of royal information, whether you live in the States or in England. We are brought up on the fairytale of marrying princes and princesses. If you’re born in Britain, you are already interested in them; and simply impossible to not know at least a little about them. They continue to fascinate everyone in the world.
The Royal family is always in the media, every day, decade after decade. While stars sometimes fade, we follow the royal family from birth to death. Anyone born before 1975, will have the major moments in the life of Prince William and the tragic death of his mother Princess Diana. One of the reasons the British family became so popular and admired by many was because of the late Princess Diana. Even after her death, so many years later, she is still one of the most famous people of all time. Very few people in the U.S. paid attention to the royals until Princess Diana came into the scene. Diana really changed it all.
Princess Diana was a ray of sunshine, a breath of fresh air. She had a fairytale wedding, married her prince and moved into a castle. While she didn’t live happily ever after, she touched people with her unselfishness, support for numerous worthy charities. She had a heart of gold even with her very own human flaws and vulnerabilities. Everyone in the royal family including Queen Elizabeth was amazed at the attention she brought to the royal family.
With the wedding of Prince William and Katherine Middleton and now the birth of Prince George Alexander Louis, the monarchy has a new generation of royal watchers. Which hopefully, they will not disappoint us. By the time, Kate Middleton becomes the Queen she will be the most famous woman in the world. An estimated 2.5 billion people watched the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, 20 times the Super Bowl’s audience.
The future king was born on July 22, a little more than 26 months after his parents’ storybook wedding at Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011. Granted, the media overplayed the birth of baby king. The news outlets along with the reporters, photographers and royal fans waited for a glimpse of the baby. While even people who hate them or are totally bored by them, know a lot about them. Some people were just saying, “who cares” or “give her privacy.” This obsession or ubiquity of, and knowledge about the Royal family isn’t just confined toBritain, either, all over the world everyone was waiting for the announcement of the birth. One theory of this global obsession is that the British royals represent history and they can trace their ancestry back to the first William, the Conqueror and Alfred the Great. Royals are the ultimate celebrities and draw an audience of billions.
There was another birth on Monday, which took a back seat to the future king. Oscar-winning actors Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz welcomed their second child, a girl in Madrida few hours after the royal birth, according to Spain’s magazine Hola! They have a 2-year-old son, Leonardo.
Rose’s Scoop: While some are giving birth, Amanda Bynes on Monday, July 22, was placed in an involuntary psychiatric hold inCalifornia, after setting a small fire in the driveway of a home in the suburbanLos Angeles neighborhood where she grew up, TMZ.com reports. The 72-hour lockdown, known as a 5150 hold is employed when a person is thought to be a danger to themselves or others. Britney Spears was under lockdown back in 2008. Just hoping that Amanda Bynes finds her way, as well.
