MALIBU—Actor and comedian Kevin Hart, 40, suffered major back injuries after the driver of a vehicle he was in crashed into a wooden fence turning onto Mulholland Highway around 12:45 a.m. on Sunday, September 1.

Officials from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) confirmed Jared Black was identified as the driver behind the wheel at the time of the crash. Black also suffered major back injuries. Hart was able to retrieve medical attention.

Both victims were transported to local hospitals. Black was airlifted to UCLA Medical Hospital, while Hart was taken to Northridge Hospital.

A third individual inside the vehicle has been identified as Rebecca Broxterman. Broxterman was unharmed during the incident, but was trapped inside the vehicle after the crash. Firefighters proceeded to saw Black and Broxterman from the damaged vehicle.

Authorities reported that there were no signs of intoxication as a factor in Sunday’s crash. Black was driving, Hart’s 1970 Plymouth Barracuda which he recently purchased to celebrate his 40th birthday.

Hart is best known for his role in the comedies “Ride Along,” “Central Intelligence” and “Grudge Match.” He is expected to appear in the upcoming sequel “Jumanji: Return to the Jungle” on December 13. He will also appear in the film “Father Hood” scheduled for release on April 3, 2020.

The crash is under investigation with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Malibu/Lost Hills Station.
