SAN FRANCISCO—On Monday, September 21, 2026, the SFDA’s Office announced that Javier Campos, 26, pled guilty in connection to a 2023 Mission District shooting where nine people were shot. Campos pled guilty to one count of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and admitted that he personally and intentionally used a firearm in the commission of this crime (PC 12022.5(a)), that he personally inflicted great bodily injury on the victims (PC 12022.7(a)), and that he committed this crime for the benefit of a criminal street gang (PC 186.22(b)(1)(C)).
He was sentenced to a term of 25 years in state prison. As part of the plea agreement, Campos had to admit he was affiliated with the Sureño Criminal Street Gang and that his actions—in committing the drive-by-shooting—were intended to be an attack on the rival Norteño Criminal Street Gang.
According to the San Francisco Police Department, on June 9, 2023, at approximately 9:07 p.m., officers from Mission Station responded to the area of 24th and Treat Streets for a report of a shooting. When officers arrived on scene, they located multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers summoned medics to the scene to treat and transport the victims to a local area hospital. A total of nine victims were struck by gunfire during the incident.
“Mr. Campos’s plea of guilty will hold him accountable for this terrible act of violence,” said Assistant District Attorney Robert Perkins. “The plea agreement and state prison sentence ensures that residents of this city will be kept safe from indiscriminate gang violence.”
