SAN FRANCISCO—Another train crash in the Bay Area had people rattled up this week.
Adrian Ibarra was struck by a Bay Area Rapid Transit train while working on the new facility, which was currently undergoing construction at the West Dublin station on the afternoon of July 16. Ibarra was employed as a private contractor to work on the project.
“We don’t know exactly what happened to the victim other than he was struck by a train when the cab of his man lift crossed into the trackway for some unknown reason,” chief BART spokesman Linton Johnson told San Francisco News.
He was still breathing when paramedics reached him and was immediately taken to Eden Medical Center, according to Johnson.
The eight-car train, which was traveling about 50 mph at the time of the incident, evacuated around 75 people to the Dublin /Pleasanton station following the accident and then was sent to the Hayward station for inspection. Trains between Castor Valley and Dublin/Pleasanton stations were delayed for about two hours according to reports but then quickly picked back up.
“Train service returned to normal 20 minutes after we resumed service,” said Johnson.
The name of the train operator has not been released, and according to Johnson the investigation will take months to complete.
The occurrence took place two days before a Municipal Transportation Agency (MTA) light rail collided with the rear of a another light rail that was parked at a platform, sending almost 50 people to the hospital.
