SAN FRANCISCO—The San Francisco Police Department arrested Michael De Vito, 56, for his involvement in a series of fires in Chinatown. De Vito was taken into custody on the 1400 block of California Street, the SFPD reported in a press release. He was taken into custody on Thursday, October 27 at approximately 2:30 p.m.

The Arson Task Force had probable cause to arrest De Vito for the arson on the 700 block of Pacific Avenue between October 19 and October 20. The fire was set in the doorway of a commercial building in Chinatown. The suspect was booked at the San Francisco County Jail for Setting Fire to a Building, Possession of Flammable Material with intent to set a building on fire, and a Probation Violation.

Authorities are investigating De Vito’s possible connection to some of the other recent arsons located within the Chinatown and North Beach neighborhoods, confirmed by the San Francisco Police Department website.
