SAN FRANCISCO—On Monday, September 28, the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office announced that Glenn Hopkins, 44, of San Francisco, was charged in connection to stabbing on a Muni bus in the South of Market neighborhood. He is charged with attempted murder (PC 664/187(a)), use of a deadly weapon (PC 12022(b)(1)), and great bodily injury (PC 12022.7(a)). He is also charged with assault with a deadly weapon committed against a public transit passenger (PC 245.2) and great bodily injury (PC 12022.7(a)).
According to court documents, on September 23, at 1:44 p.m., when officers from the San Francisco Police Department responded to a stabbing on a Muni bus. He was involved in an encounter with two female passengers when the victim boarded the bus and heard the women yelling at Hopkins to get away and to stop staring at them. The victim stood between Hopkins and the women. He continued trying to get past the victim, could not, and Hopkins removed a box cutter with the blade exposed and then suddenly and repeatedly swung it at the victim’s neck and throat. Officers located the defendant nearby and placed him under arrest.
Hopkins was scheduled to be arraigned on September 28 in the Hall of Justice. The District Attorney’s Office will move to have him detained pending trial because of the public safety risk he poses.
