SAN FRANCISCO—On July 10, the San Francisco Police Department reported that a hot prowl burglary suspect from a July 3 incident has been apprehended.
The SFPD reported on July 3, officers responded to a residence in the Northern District regarding a stolen vehicle. Upon arrival, officers learned that an unknown suspect burglarized the home overnight while the residents were asleep inside.
During the burglary, the suspect stole several items, including the victim’s vehicle, which was parked inside the home’s garage.
The San Francisco Police Department’s Real Time Investigation Center (RTIC) received an Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) alert indicating the vehicle was traveling through San Francisco. SFPD’s Drone as a First Responder (DFR) officers launched a drone to assist with the investigation while plainclothes officers from multiple units coordinated surveillance of the vehicle.
The suspect drove into an alley in the Southern District and exited the vehicle. Plainclothes officers safely took the suspect into custody without incident.
The suspect was identified as Dylan Ward, 28. At the time of his arrest, Ward was wearing clothing that was stolen during the burglary, and the stolen vehicle contained property taken from the victim’s residence. Officers recovered all stolen property, including the vehicle, and returned it to the rightful owners.
Ward was booked into the San Francisco County Jail on charges including first-degree burglary (PC 459), possession of a stolen vehicle (VC 10851(a)), and possession of stolen property (PC 496(a)).
