SAN FRANCISCO—On Wednesday, September 24, the SFDA’s Office announced that two suspects, Nino Fiopoto, 28, and Rubin Mesa, 30, both of San Francisco, have been charged in connection to unlawful and reckless dirt bike riding on September 21.
Fiopoto and Mesa are scheduled to be arraigned on September 25, at 9 a.m. in Department 17 at the Hall of Justice. Both defendants are each charged with reckless driving (VC 23103(a)) and participating in a speed contest (VC 23109(c)).
The San Francisco Police Department noted on September 21, officers seized six dirt bikes and an ATV during a crackdown on dangerous stunt driving and other illegal activity in San Francisco.
The operation involved coordination between the Citywide Plainclothes Team, Real-Time Investigation Center (RTIC), Drone as a First Responder (DFR) and Stunt Driving Response Unit (SDRU). Officers used cutting edge technology like Automated License Plate Readers, Drones, and surveillance cameras, along with physical surveillance, to assist officers on the ground to seize vehicles and make arrests.
The pre-planned operation focused on enforcing California vehicle codes as they relate to illegal dirt bike riding. Fiopoto and Mesa were arrested by the SFPD near the corner of Divisadero Street and Lombard Street.
The case is still under investigation by the San Francisco Police Department. Anyone with details is asked to call the Tip Line at 415-575-4444 or Text a Tip to TIP411 and begin the text message with SFPD.
