SAN FRANCISCO—San Francisco 49ers outside linebacker Ahmad Brooks has been accused of sexual assault in an alleged incident involving former Niners defensive lineman Ray McDonald.
The plaintiff of the lawsuit, a woman who alleges that McDonald sexually assaulted her last December after she fell and hit her head by his pool, has named Brooks in a cross complaint that states that he “groped her in a sexual manner.”
McDonald was released by the 49ers hours after the San Jose Police Department publicly confirmed that he was the suspect in the case. Though McDonald has not been arrested, Santa Clara County prosecutors have yet to determine if they will pursue criminal charges.
The athlete filed a defamation lawsuit against the woman in March and has since signed a contract with the Chicago Bears.
It remains to be seen what the team will do with Brooks, who remains under contract with the 49ers until 2018. The 31-year-old started in 13 games and totaled six sacks for the Niners in 2014. He is slated to make a base salary of $3.5 million in 2015.
